Gamify Literacy

I just got published! My writing has been included in a compilation book about gamification strategies.  Gamify Literacy is an ISTE publication edited by Michell Haiken (@Teaching Factor).  My chapter is called Head of the Class: Designing Effective Leaderboards for the Classroom. In it I discuss several tricks for reducing shame in leaderboard systems in addition to analyzing how various player types respond to leaderboards and other feedback mechanisms. I try to frame leaderboards in the context of the greater gamified classroom as a whole with a heavy reminder that feedback systems are just a small part of a well balanced game. I hope you pick it up and enjoy the read!
